Lincoln Sea and Nares Strait

چکیده
A winter phenomenon of ice break-up takes place in Lincoln Sea every year. A previous study based on ERS-1 SAR data has been resumed based on Radarsat data that is briefly reported here. The study of two winters, 1996-1997 and 1997-1998, is supported by wind data. It is found that the ice motion in the area often is driven by wind but also that it is seriously influenced by blocking at the entrance to and in Nares Strait and the barrier that normally forms in southern Kane Basin in particular. The meteorological conditions were different during the two years with the last one being an anomaly.

Report on Estimating Sea-ice Transport into the North Atlantic Using the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (amsr-e)
Using the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer sensor (AMSR-E), winter (October to May) sea ice area flux is estimated for the main channels of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, Baffin Bay and Fram Strait. The transport through Fram Strait is estimated at 533,000 km 2 and 635,000 km 2 for the winter of 2002/03 and 2003/04 which is below the 24-year average of 754,000 km 2 obtained by Kwok et a...

Analysis of the shape properties of fish otolith is one way to identify stocks of different species in the marine environment. Length, width, area, perimeter, form factor, aspect ratio, roundness, circularity, ellipticity and rectangularity analyses of otoliths were undertaken to assess patterns of spatial and temporal stock structure of a wide-ranging fish, the Arabian yellow fin sea bream Aca...

متن کاملSupport for the Innuitian Ice Sheet in the Canadian High Arctic during the Last Glacial Maximum
The extent of glacier ice in the Canadian High Arctic during the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) has been debated for decades. One school proposed a regional Innuitian Ice Sheet whereas another proposed a smaller, non-contiguous Franklin Ice Complex. Research throughout western Nares Strait supports coalescent Innuitian and Greenland ice during the LGM, based on widespread glacial and marine deposit...
